Should I Stay or Should I Go?

My wife and I were talking this morning about an upcoming mission trip that several members of our church are going on (including her!). My wife talked about the call that she feels to the people of the world – how that God was stirring her heart for refugees, in particular.

As we talked, I felt the Lord speak to me to share this with you:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

The call to “go” is to all of us. It is not based upon hearing a voice say “go”. It is based upon the fact that the Father has given all authority to the Son, Jesus. Notice the words:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore……”

We are sent by God – our calling comes from the fact that God has given all authority to the Son. No matter where you go today – no matter how ungodly the environment, Jesus is saying to you, “I have ultimate authority in the environment you are in”.

Satan will fight against God’s authority – people may rebel against it, but God says that for those who stay the course and believe, pray, and live His Word; the authority of the Lord will be manifest in the places they “go”!

The reality of the authority of the Lord is the basis for our call to go. If God’s authority goes with us, who can stand against us? We go because of what we carry, not because we hear a “voice” telling us to go.

I hear people say things like, “I’m not called to Africa or to the mission field”. Yes, you are! The question is not, “Are you called?” The question is, “Where are you called to?”

If you want to know where you are called to, then let me ask you, “Where do you go?”

You are called to where you work, where you live, to Albertsons, to Walmart, to wherever you place your feet.

Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours. Deuteronomy 11:24

This is a matter of authority; a matter of inheritance. God has released His authority to take the land and to give you a role in Christ’s inheritance.

Some will hear a specific call to a specific country or people group. But, even if you don’t hear that call, your calling remains strong to the places that you “go”.

Silent witnesses are just that, silent. Jesus said to “teach them”. Jesus is calling you to more than just a living witness. He is calling you to a living witness that speaks the authority of the Lord into the places you frequent.

My wife’s compassion for the world is challenging her current state of life. Is your compassion challenging your current state of life?

If not, then it is not strong enough to reach the people of this world with the life saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

All effective witnesses come to this point of interaction with God:

“Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?”

To be effective, you must be able to answer the call of the Lord this way:

“Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.”

“And He said, ‘Go, and tell this people.”

Go forth today in all the authority of the Lord Jesus! Speak His Word into the lives of those around you! Endure the battles until you are victorious! Take the land for the Lord!
