The church is the vehicle through which God is working. The church is not a building. Buildings testify to the existence of worshipers but they do not obey or minister. The church is a body of individuals, saved by the grace of God and filled with the Holy Spirit. The church is not an “individualistic” expression but a corporate expression: a group of people dependent upon one another due to the shared grace measured out to each one as the Lord wills. The church is also not just one group but groups of groups who together express their Savior, Jesus.
Now, let’s bring this down to the individual level.
We are saved as individuals with the intent to live out our lives of grace in community. “Individualistic” Christianity is incomplete Christianity because other than Jesus, no one individual carries all the gifts of God. For the entirety of the ministry of Jesus to be seen, it takes a group. Jesus created it this way so that the focus will be upon the Head of the church rather than one gift infused individual.
As individuals, we are saved in God’s love. The scripture says that we are “rooted and grounded in love.” We have been planted in God’s love and will continue to grow as we remain in that love.
We can be saved in love and not really understand love. If we don’t comprehend God’s love, then we cannot grow spiritually as we should.
Do you realize that the scripture says that we “can be filled with all the fullness of God?”
What a thought!! So, God’s will for me is that I be filled with “all the fullness of God!”
Notice how this is written: it is God’s will to fill me (fill means to what?) with all (all means how much?) the fullness (how much is “fullness?”) of God!! There is a repetitive sense used here so that I will understand exactly what God is saying. God’s will is for me to be full of Him and everything that makes up His essence.
That doesn’t mean that I will have every gift of the Spirit operating in me, but it means that, as part of the body that expresses Jesus, I will be as full of Jesus as I can be and being connected to the other parts of the Body of Christ, we will together express Jesus in His fullness!
The key to me walking in the fullness of God is my acceptance of His love.
A lack of comprehension of God’s love leads to disobedience. On the surface, I disobey because I do not “understand” God’s commands. This doesn’t mean I don’t have the mental acumen to grasp what He is saying but that I have arguments that seem to suggest a better way than the one He lays out for me. In reality, I’m not disobeying because I don’t understand His direction but I disobey because I don’t know His love!
Are you disobeying God in some area of life?
No one can discern all of God’s ways but that’s not the problem – the problem lies in the fact that you don’t trust Him! A lack of trust is solidly centered in a lack of knowledge regarding His love!
The amount of glory in the church is directly tied to how much fullness of God is represented in the church. The more fullness of God, the more glory!
God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or think!
Yes, but is He willing?
If He is not willing, why is Paul praying for revelation of this fact?
So, let’s put this in perspective:
God is able and willing to do super above – in a measure that will surprise us in everything that expresses His will!!!
This includes but is not limited to what we can ask or think.
Can we understand the Bible? Can we meditate on Jesus’ works? Can we ask for resurrection power?
We can ask or think on what we’ve seen so those things are included but God has things in store for us that we can’t put a name to because we’ve never seen them or conceived of them!
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10
God sent me today to give you this word. And, why would He do it if it were not possible?
Two more things:
The power that makes all this possible is already at work within us! We just have to focus on the Lord and receive His love so that roadblocks to His fullness are removed!
Second, this is a corporate expression: no one is left out!!! But, it is up to you! God has already made the proclamation – where is your affirmation?
This is the word that God has for us in this hour!
Can the church replicate the ministry of Jesus?
You bet! And, it’s not just that we can, it is God’s will!
Raising the expectations to meet God’s, raises the level of glory!
