What Spirit are You?

We live in times of opportunity and conflict. Isn’t it interesting that these two, which at times appear opposite are in reality sisters of the same family! Where you find opportunity, you often find conflict. The reverse is also true – where you find conflict, hidden within you will find opportunity! Before you stands great opportunity! But, this opportunity comes in the presence of conflict.

Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 11:12: “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it.”

The great things of the kingdom of heaven lie before us for the taking but – they are received through conflict. Only those who learn to be successful warriors reap the rewards of the kingdom!!

Jesus and His disciples often encountered conflict. One time, in the presence of such conflict, Jesus told His disciples, And he turned and he rebuked them and he said, “You do not know of which Spirit you are.” Luke 9:55

If we are going to be successful in conflict and in grasping the opportunities God has before us, we must know what Spirit guides, leads, and directs us!

“And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on him–the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.” Isaiah 11:2

The same Spirit that was upon Jesus, now rests upon us. Here’s a glimpse into the makeup of that Spirit:

The Spirit of the Lord  “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is first and foremost, a ministering Spirit. It carries an anointing to take ground from the enemy and advance the kingdom of God! If you carry that Spirit, you are a minister! Are you taking ground from the enemy and creating opportunity for others to experience His glory?

The Spirit of wisdom – Wisdom as used here means – knowledge that is applied. In other words, facts do not become wisdom until they are operating in your life! Is your knowledge of the kingdom just a bunch of facts or is it wisdom?

The Spirit of understanding – Understanding is the knowledge of how something works. Knowledge is useless until it can be applied. Understanding helps you know how to practically do things in life. You can’t “do” until you understand!

The Spirit of counsel – Counsel means to discover purpose; to advise. God’s Spirit gives us the ability to see beyond the current circumstances and to know how God is using all things for the good of people and, therefore to further His glory! This, we share with others as they go through the trials of life. We are not “pain” people, we are “finish line” people! We don’t focus on the pain of the journey, we focus on what God has in store for us and we share that with others as they encounter trials.

The Spirit of might – Might is power evidenced in deeds and triumph. The power we carry is a “working” power that can be seen in our lives and through its operation, leads us to victory! We are not a defeated people nor are we a stagnant people! You can see Jesus in us by our deeds and by the fact that we are more than conquerors!

The Spirit of knowledge – Knowledge – facts taught by God. We don’t have a lot of useless information running around inside our brains! We have words that are alive because they have been taught us by the Spirit of the Living God!

The Spirit of the fear of the Lord – Fear as used here means reverence; respect. The fear of the Lord is defined in Proverbs 8:13: “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverted mouth, I hate.” The fear of the Lord leads us to the understanding that God knows more than we do; that He loves us very much – enough to give His life for us; and that we respect His judgment regarding what is good and evil. We don’t try to discern good and evil through our own understanding but we trust Him to reveal these things to us and we follow His direction. What He hates – we hate. What He loves – we love!

If you are going to win in the battle of life, you must know what Spirit leads you. If you are going to embrace and make the most of the opportunities before you, you must understand the Spirit that God has given you!! We cannot escape warfare, but in this war lies kingdom booty for the taking!

Read this and meditate on it! Then, ask God to make you subservient to His Spirit! We will shout with you as you take ground for the kingdom and enter into opportunities that are kingdom inspired!
