In the past week, we celebrated the 57th inauguration of the office of the Presidency of the United States. Each time an inauguration occurs, our nation looks to Washington eagerly looking for signs of hope that signal days of prosperity and peace lie ahead. In the same week in which we celebrated the inauguration, a Gallup Poll was conducted asking Americans if they believed that America’s best days were ahead. The majority of people sampled believed that our best days as a nation were actually behind us! What a sad commentary as to the mindset of the people of our nation!
It is not difficult to understand why many people feel the way they do about the future. Our government is a “house divided”. Desperation and hopelessness has driven many to vent their frustrations through horrific events like Sandy Hook. Our economy is steadily heading toward an abyss of debt and no one seems to have the moral courage to make the difficult decisions to change our course.
It is easy to get caught up in the desperation of our times. For these last many years, even teachers of the gospel of Jesus have been focused on the “here and now” – how to live better lives now….how to be successful now. While I don’t dispute the need for us to focus on the overcoming power of Jesus in the now, I also know that, for us to stay balanced, we must also remind ourselves of the future. Yes, we can look ahead and see that better times are coming!!
Revelation 19:11 – “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
There is a day coming in which a new leader will be inaugurated! He is like no other leader that has even appeared before Him. His rule will fix all the problems that have occurred due to the inefficiencies of man. He will have the moral courage and power to defeat every agenda opposed to righteousness and will put an end to all rebellion.
Revelation 21:1 – “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.”
This leader will create a society in which everything operates according to truth and holiness.
Revelation 21:4 – “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
This leader will have moral authority and courage but He will also carry the power of a great Physician; touching individuals and healing them from the effects of what has been. He will change the future – situations that cause pain for humans will be done away with and all society will live in a just and peaceful environment!
Revelation 22:1 – “And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”
You talk about a society of benevolence!
No more need to work and struggle for provision. Everyone will have equal access to what gives life and nourishment! No more utility bills! No more terrorism! No more tragedies like Sandy Hook! No more homeless! No more orphans!
This is the future!
We need to work to make our world a better place but, how do we do that?
By looking at what the world is like when Jesus is absolute Lord and working to see that His headship and authority is established in everything we work on and in everyone we work with! So, by looking ahead, we see what is possible in the now if we allow the King of Kings and Lord of Lords to have His way in life!
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!! Lord, we recognize (inaugurate) you as our King! May Your Kingdom come and Your will be established so that Your glory will fill the earth!
Thank you, that no enemy can stop the coming of Your kingdom! Behold, I am coming quickly!
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!”
We do not despair because we serve a King who has the will, authority, and compassion to make all things new!
Praise God for new things in 2013!!! We are closer to His kingdom than we have ever been!
