The Destroyer of God’s People

“My people perish (are destroyed) for lack of…………

Miracles?

Money?

Opportunity?

No, the Bible actually tells us in Hosea 4:6: “My people perish for lack of knowledge”.

We are not destroyed because of a lack of information. God knows we are living in a time of information overload – even in the Christian world! We have access to all types of teachings and notes and studies. No, we are not perishing for a lack of information but for a lack of knowledge.

I’m not exalting the mind over everything else. There was a time when the church looked to knowledge over the Spirit to be the answer to its growth. I know that the power of the Spirit is what changes people and therefore, is what changes nations. Although knowledge is not the key to transformation, the revelation of Jesus and His kingdom IS the key to transformation. Jesus came to reveal the Father and to show us the kingdom of God. Obedience to the revelation given to us by Jesus is the determining factor in how much earth is changed to look like heaven.

You cannot underestimate the role that the knowledge of the kingdom of God and the ways of the Holy Spirit play in the transformation of the believer in Jesus. We are not held back from spiritual freedom by a lack of power, we are held back by “practices” that operate in our lives that do not reflect the truth of the kingdom of God regarding us and our world.  Many are hurt by what others have done to them or are disappointed in things that happened or did not happen along the way. If these events are not dealt with in a biblical manner, they can transfer lies to the individual that will affect many important decisions made from that moment on. Hurts and disappointments cause anger but underneath that, they  cause fear. The goal of life becomes the avoidance of any situation that may cause a repeat of the incident that caused the original pain. This “avoidance” factor usually operates in our subconscious in the form of these type of statements, “You can’t…”, “It always…”, “Nothing ever…”, or something similar. When a believer has these “beliefs” operating in them, these “beliefs” will eventually directly oppose something God is telling the individual to believe for.

For instance, God may tell you that He has a great marriage ahead for you. But, the “avoidance” factor, which has become your reality is opposing God’s plan and word by saying, “You  can never trust again!” If you operate according to the situation that caused you pain and the belief about life it taught you instead of acting according to the “knowledge” of God and the Bible – the plan of God will be perish from your reality!

Jesus said to His followers in Matthew 15:6:

“Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition (way of doing things).”

If we follow our traditional way of thinking about things and doing things, we can actually make the will of God of no effect in our lives! The only thing that can keep the plan of God from coming to pass in your life is a belief system that contradicts God’s word!

We all have thinking that needs to be changed. If you have some beliefs about yourself that are unbiblical, then allow the Holy Spirit to get to the hurt so that He can heal you. Most of us expend a lot of energy trying to protect our hurts from being exposed. Remember what Jesus said in Mark 8:35:

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.”

It is scary to allow someone into where you have been hurt but if your goal is to keep everyone – even God out, then you will not experience the life God has for you!

Living according to truth will set you free. (John 8:32) Don’t allow a situation that happened dictate what you will or will not receive from God. The good news is that satan cannot stop your promise from coming to you and neither can anyone else. What does God say about you in His word?

Embrace it and get rid of things contradictory to it! In truth’s embrace, ,you experience everlasting life!

Today, the “atmosphere” of your life is setting up for a change! Storms are passing and the dawn is breaking! Jeremiah 29:11 is not just for someone other than you – it is YOUR verse. Don’t allow anything – past, present, or anything looming in the future steal the truth of God for your life!

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
