Our lives are so often lived within “the box” of predictability that if the true Jesus showed up, we would be scared to death of Him. Jesus lived a life “outside the box” of predictability.
Some of the comments about His actions included:
“No one ever spoke like this!”
“What type of man is this that even the wind and waves obey Him?”
“Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us on the road?”
“After this, they dared not question Him anymore.”
“We never saw anything like this!”
The predictable doesn’t surprise anyone. It is expected. But, Jesus operated beyond the expected and the predictable. Even when some began to think they had Him “pegged”, He did things in a manner that surprised them. Instead of speaking or touching, He would heal by spitting and making mud pies! Can you imagine the guy who He spit on? Walking to the pool in the city with mud on his eyes, looking ridiculous to the people around him.
“Hey, you! Why don’t you wipe that mud off your eyes?”
“I can’t! Jesus spit and made mud and I can’t wipe it off until I get to the pool of Siloam!” I can just hear those who saw him, “What a dufus!” Doesn’t he know how stupid he looks? No one is going to wipe mud and spit on my eyes and get away with it!”
An “inside the box” comment, if I’ve ever heard one! People who make these statements are not a candidate for a miracle.
If you want the supernatural and spectacular to be seen in your life you can’t live “inside the box” of predictability! Walking on water is outside the box. Healing supernaturally is outside the box. Raising the dead is outside the box. Speaking words that actually convict and move people to change happens outside the box.
Many people say, “Jesus move in my life, just don’t rock the boat! I can’t stand to be seen as different!”
Supernatural things happen on the water, not in the boat. Peter had the guts to say, “Lord, if that’s You, bid me come to You!” Do you have the guts to do the same? If you have a desire to blend into the background, you won’t be a water walker!
I once heard someone say, “I’d rather be a wet water walker than a dry boat sitter!” God, give us the same attitude! If Jesus’ presence in your life goes unnoticed by those around you, then He is’nt present! Jesus will not – cannot fade into the scenery. By His very nature, He stands out like a sore thumb. You can’t hide the King of Kings from sight!!
A life lived in Christ is an unconventional life. It is life “outside the box” of predictability and that very thing is what keeps it from being a life wasted.
Remember – Very few remember the predictable. The predictable is safe but it is also boring!!!
It is time for the daring to take the stage! If you’re alive, you’re on the stage of life. Do you want those watching you to be so underwhelmed by your life that their response to you is, “Don’t call us, we’ll call you!” Or, would you like them to say something like, “I’ve never seen or heard anything like that in my life!”
The choice is up to you.
